SOLUTIONS FOR TOP QUALITY LAMINATED TIMBER PRODUCTS

WIESE WOODWORKING MACHINERY CC continues to provide the most modern technology and cost effective solutions for top quality laminated timber products.

Machines of mostly American origin have been used and developed over a period of many years in markets which understand the benefits of stabilising timber by laminating or gluing.

1. YATES HIGH SPEED PLANER
Ideal for the sawmill which has it's own value adding plant and which chooses to optimise in the drymill as opposed to the wetmill. The B-26 which can plane top and bottom at 120 m/min enables the sawmiller to fly-cut his logs into flitches, enjoy better drying, approximately 16 % higher recovery in the wetmill and better grading.

2. TAYLOR AUTOMATED OPTI-RIP
Used in conjunction with a precision multi-rip, dry, sized flitches and blanks can be ripped for optimum recovery using a unique fenceless alignment system. Recoveries are of the order of 85-95 percent from flitch to sawn board.

3. MEREEN JOHNSON PRECISION MULTI-RIP
This machine has a unique double-vee guiding system on an all aluminium feed chain with replaceable rubber inserts. This permits a rip at high speed of glueline quality. This means the surface after ripping is of a higher quality than a planed surface, perfectly perpendicular to the original planed surface coming from the YATES. It is an absolute essential when gluing two pieces of timber together that their cross-section is a perfect rectangle. Even if lamellas twist after this point of manufacture they will be corrected if their cross-section is perfect.

4. TAYLOR CLAMP CARRIER SYSTEM
The secret is in the clamp. Each piece of timber has a unique set of characteristics: Density, tension, porosity, moisture content and strength. Presuming no two pieces to have identical characteristics, the clamp is required to compensate in order to bring these pieces together in harmony. Ideally a board consisting of edge-glued lamellas should have no inherent tension. As outside factors are applied for example ageing, humidity and temperature variations glue-line failure can occur. The TAYLOR CLAMP is designed with these factors in mind. It can stretch and equalise pressure over the width of the board and this unique factor applied over the full length of the board using a number of clamps scientifically spaced apart makes the TAYLOR the most forgiving clamping system available.

5. TIMESAVERS PLANER/SANDER
From a range of machines designed for smaller shops, to top and bottom throughfeed complete lines, the planer / sander is the most efficient means of bringing the edge-glued panels to a uniform dimension of suitable quality.

On the face of it the manufacture of edge-glued panels is a seemingly simple exercise but the manufacturer's choice of machinery to meet the high quality demands, especially of the export market, will decide between success and failure.
